Synthetic Biology

“When the software builds its own hardware!”

An inspirational talk by the Craig Venter, the founding father of “Synthetic Biology”. After revolutionizing Genomics, he and his team were the first to prove the feasability of genome transplantation & rebooting in prokaryotes. From my point of view, one of the top-ranking achievements ever made in Biology.

“There are 1.7 million known species of life on earth, but within 50 years we may have invented more organisms in the lab than we’ve identified in nature. Although Synthetic Biology is still in a very early, experimental phase, it could become the defining technology of the 21st century, bringing with it new thinking, new questions, and radical new possibilities.”
